You can use AutoCAD base plans as the starting point for your designs in ICE. AutoCAD base plans are DXF or DWG files that map out the overall layout of the space that you are creating your ICE design for. When you import DXF or DWG files into ICE, the lines in these files appear in ICE 2D plan view. You can use these lines as a basis for your drawing in ICE.
When you open the Import DXF/DWG dialog box to import a DXF or DWG file, you see a list of the steps that you must take for the import. To understand the process, you can review these steps before importing. Choose a DXF or DWG file and Finish! are required steps, but the others are optional:
After choosing a DXF or DWG file, you can click Finish and proceed to the final step, accepting the default DXF/DWG import settings. Or, you can perform each step to chose the import settings for your DXF or DWG file. The default settings are:
•Scale-Inches: Applies inches as the unit of measurement for the imported DXF/DWG file.
•Origin-As defined in the file: Applies the ICE file origin to the imported DXF/DWG file.
•Layers-Maintaining the original layers from the file: Maintains the original layers from the DXF/DWG file on separate ICE layers.
To Import a DXF or DWG
1.In the File menu, choose Import>2D DXF/DWG file.
The Import DXF/DWG dialog box opens.
2. To locate your DXF or DWG file, click Browse.
The Import DXF/DWG dialog for selecting a DXF/DWG appears.
3.In the Import DXF/DWG dialog, select the DXF or DWG file, and click Open to import it into ICE.
In the Import DXF/DWG dialog, your file appears in the Filename box, as show in this example image:
4.Choose the scale option for your DXF/DWG import.

If you click Finish, ICE imports the DXF/DWG, choosing inches for the scale, using the file origin in the ICE file, and bringing the layers from the original file into ICE.
If you click Next, you choose the scale for your import, and you can choose the file origin and layers in steps 6 and 8.
5.Choose the Scale.
You can click on Inches or Millimeters. Or, click Other and use the menu to choose a different unit of measurement.
6.Choose the file origin option for your DXF/DWG impprt.

If you click Finish, ICE imports the DXF/DWG, using the file origin in the ICE file and bringing the layers from the original file into ICE.
If you click Next, you choose the scale for your import, and you can choose the file origin and layers in step 8.
7.Click File Origin to insert the base plan at the ICE file origin, or choose specify origin and type in an X, Y location.
8.Choose the file layer option for your DXF/DWG impprt.

If you click Finish, ICE imports the DXF/DWG keeps the file layers from the imported file. If you click Next, you choose the layer option in step 9.
9.Click Keep file layers to keep the layers from the imported file, or choose Merge all layers into one ICE layer to merge all layers onto one ICE layer.
9.Click Next.
The Import Summary appears, showing you the import options that you have chosen for your DXF or DWG file.
10.Review the Import Summary to confirm your choices.
Tip: If you want to change any of your choices, click Back.
11.Click Finish to import the DXF or DWG file.
ICE imports the AutoCAD DXF or DWG file, and it appears in ICE 2D plan view.
